Plate II The three coasts

Flores, catalogued west to east

One island, three under-surveyed stretches of water. Each charters differently — this is the shape of what we run.

Scattered green islets and calm turquoise shallows near Riung, central Flores

II·a West

Labuan Bajo & the Komodo fringe

The busy gateway — but chartered privately you skip the queues: Rinca’s dragon fringe, Padar’s ridges, calm morning reef before the fleets arrive.

Season: Apr–Oct calmest

Labuan Bajo charter →
Calm dusk anchorage at Teluk Maumere on the east coast of Flores

II·b Central

Riung & the 17 Islands

The overlooked middle: scattered islets, Pulau Ontoloe’s flying foxes at dusk, Tiga Warna shallows. Rarely on a standard Komodo itinerary.

Season: May–Sep

Riung 17 Islands →

II·c East

Maumere & Teluk Maumere

The far end most charters never reach: Pulau Besar, Babi and Pangabatang, still dusk anchorages. The natural finish of a one-way traverse.

Season: Apr–Nov

This diagnoses the shape of trip — it never fabricates a day-by-day plan or per-stop prices. A real crew confirms both.

    Plate IV Field process

How a custom charter is commissioned

    1. 01

      Send the brief

Use the dials above or message us. Coast, days, party, and what you’re chasing — that’s enough to start.

    2. 02

      We propose a shape

Round-trip or one-way, the vessel that fits, and an honest pace note — including when a plan is too rushed to be good.

    3. 03

      Quote per vessel

A whole-boat figure for your dates, quoted per vessel/day as of 2026 — not padded with invented per-stop line items.

    4. 04

      Crew confirms & sails

The captain locks anchorages against the real forecast. You board; the survey of your stretch of coast begins.

Three classes cover the whole coast. We match the vessel to the brief, not the other way around.

    V·a Day-boat

    Local day-boat & speedboat

Single-coast, port nights ashore. The value-tier way to explore West or a short Riung run without a live-aboard commitment.

    V·b Cabin cruiser

    Small liveaboard cruiser

A few nights aboard for a fuller single coast or a west→central leg. Compact, crewed, comfortable for small parties.

    V·c Phinisi

    Liveaboard phinisi

The full one-way Labuan Bajo → Maumere traverse. Traditional wooden expedition boat, crewed, for 8-day-plus coast-to-coast survey.

    Questions from the survey log

When is the best season to charter the Flores coast?

It shifts by coast. West (Labuan Bajo & the Komodo fringe) is calmest Apr–Oct; Central around Riung reads best May–Sep; the East toward Maumere holds Apr–Nov. A full one-way traverse is safest inside the Apr–Oct window. These are honest seasonal tendencies as of 2026 — the captain always checks the live forecast before locking anchorages.

Can I sail one-way from Labuan Bajo to Maumere?

Yes — the one-way west→east traverse is our signature trip and needs a liveaboard phinisi and roughly 8 days or more to be comfortable. One-way means the boat repositions the full coast, so logistics (fuel, crew, your return flight from Maumere) are built into the quote. Under about 6 days we’ll honestly suggest a one-way west→central leg instead.

    How are charters priced?

Per vessel, per day — you charter the whole boat, not a seat. We quote a value-tier range for your dates and party, dated “as of 2026,” then confirm a firm figure. We do not invent per-stop prices or padded line items; the brief tool gives you the shape, a human gives you the number.

Is this safe on the open central and east coasts?

The stretches beyond Komodo are less trafficked, not less serviced. Boats carry standard safety gear and licensed local crew who know these waters; routes are planned around season and daily conditions, with port nights ashore on shorter single-coast trips. If weather makes a leg unwise, the captain reshapes it — that honesty is the point.

    Who operates these charters?

Flores Compass Charters arranges private crewed boats as an independent concierge working with Komodo Luxury. We coordinate the vessel, crew, and route across the Labuan Bajo–Riung–Maumere coast. All bookings and quotes are confirmed directly with the operating crew before you pay.
